Double Post: Outdoor Wednesday and Foodie Friday

This is a double post for Outdoor Wednesday, hosted by Susan at A Southern Daydreamer and Foodie Friday, hosted by Michael at Designs By Gollum. Please visit their blogs for other participants.

One of our favorite things to do in the summer is to go boating and pull up to a waterside restaurant to eat -- usually Maryland blue crabs. Yummers!

This guy is waving to all of you in blogland!

Here's a picture of our little 18 1/2 footer that I affectionately call "The Canoe." I call it that because you should see some of the boats that are stored at our marina. Yowsa! You could definitely live on a lot of them.

Summer Salad Saturdays

Welcome to Summer Salad Saturdays, hosted by Southern Whimsy! Please visit Southern Whimsy for lots more yummy salads!

~~~
I found this pretty serving bowl at Home Goods a couple of weeks ago and thought: Wow, what a pretty bowl I can use for Summer Salad Saturdays!
This is one of my very favorite salads, yet it's so simple. My mom always just calls this "wilted salad." All you do is wash and tear leaf lettuce and dice some green onions. Fry a few strips of bacon, reserving the grease (I know, this isn't the healthiest, but it's one of the few times I use bacon grease for anything). Crumble the bacon into the salad, add salt and pepper, and the reserved (still warm) bacon grease. Yummers! I can eat a whole meal of just this.
Pink Saturday 6/6
Welcome to Pink Saturday! Please visit our sweet hostess for this event, Beverly at How Sweet The Sound, for a list of other participants.
~~~

For this Pink Saturday, I've lined a tray with a pretty pink napkin, and I'm serving pink lemonade in some pretty, soft pink glasses.

This was a plain white Porcellana de Paris pitcher I found at Ross. I took a cue from Barb at Grits and Glamour and put some scrapbook stickers on it for a whole new look. Easy peasy!

Senior Prom

Today is my son's Senior Prom. Here he is with his sweet girlfriend Mary.

These pictures also include one of Nick's best friends, Mark, and his date Ashley. Nick and Mark have known each other since they were about five.

Foodie Friday

Welcome to Foodie Friday, hosted by Michael at Designs by Gollum. Please visit her beautiful blog for lots of culinary inspiration!
~~~
For this week's Foodie Friday, I'm presenting a simple apple tart.
All you need to do is thaw a frozen puff pastry sheet, and then cut it in half or thirds, depending on how wide you want your tarts to be. I cut mine in half. Then just mix very thinly sliced apples with lemon juice, brown sugar and a pinch of salt. Layer the apples onto your tart and bake at 400 degrees for approximately 18 minutes, watching closely toward the end. Sift confectioner's sugar over the tart after you take it out of the oven.
This was delicious as is, but I think I might add some cinnamon next time, or even try pears or peaches instead of the apples.
Hope you've enjoyed this Foodie Friday, and that everyone has a great weekend!
Orchestra Concert
Besides Ballerina Maison being a superb dancer, she's also a talented violinist. Here she is, ready to head out to an orchestra concert at her high school tonight. I'm so proud of my little girl!
